Cymbiola Imperialis – Volutidae - Collector Shell...

Specimen of Cymbiola imperialis, one of the taxa of the Volutidae family in the Indo-Pacific region. The shell is robust yet harmoniously elongated, with a fusiform outline and a moderately high spire, composed of well-developed and regularly increasing whorls. The apex is relatively broad, with a smooth and well-preserved protoconch, in an orange-yellow tone, clearly distinguished from the teleoconch. The shoulder is pronounced and adorned with a regular series of robust, rounded tubercles, arranged along the upper margin of the last whorl, a characteristic feature of the species. These tubercles give the shell a sculptured appearance and a strong morphological presence, emphasizing the angled profile of the shoulder itself. The surface of the body whorl is smooth and glossy, showing a complex color pattern of large triangular and polygonal patches of brown-orange color, distributed on an ivory-cream background. The pattern is clear and well contrasted, with slight variations in color intensity due to the natural growth lines. The longitudinal striations, visible mainly in the lighter areas, faithfully follow the axis of growth of the shell. N.B. the shell has a chipped, broken tip at the lower end, visible in the photo.
