Cymbiola flavicans (77 mm

Cymbiola flavicans (77 mm

Scientific name: Cymbiola flavicans (Gmelin, 1791) – in the German-speaking world known as the Yellow Walzen snail or Mud Volute (Mud Volute). Origin & Localities: Australia; this top-class specimen comes from the northern coast of Australia (typically collected in the mud-rich mangrove and shallow-water reef regions east of Darwin, Northern Territory or Arnhem Land). Habitat: A specialized volute snail that lives on fine mud and sandy substrates as well as near river mouths and mangroves. It is usually spotted by collectors in the tidal flats at extreme low tide or live-collected by divers in shallow coastal zones. Size & Condition: 77 mm – An excellent, fully mature size (the species typically ranges between 60 and 100 mm). Condition GEM (Absolute museum- and top-quality): for this mud- and tidal-zone-dwelling species, a true rarity. While wild specimens very often show abrasions on the back or fine chipping on the soft outer lip, this shell is flawless all around. It features a razor-sharp lip, an entirely intact apex, and a glossy finish that perfectly showcases the net-like brown-yellow pattern. SKU Oberdiek Cymbiola flavicans 51
