Curt Schlevogt - Jewellery box - Malachite glass - glass lid box

Curt Schlevogt - Jewellery box - Malachite glass - glass lid box

A jewelry box, executed in the Art Deco style from around 1930. Designed by the renowned designer Curt Schlevogt and manufactured from a glass imitation of malachite, so-called malachite glass. Schlevogt was famous for his glass imitations of more precious stone varieties, whereby through special glass processes a high-quality and strikingly similar appearance was created. The box has a wavy edge; the lid features a relief and gracefully rendered resting woman, half-naked. Curt Schlevogt was a leading Bohemian glass designer and manufacturer based in Gablonz an der Neiße (now Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic). He founded the glass factory Ingrid at the end of the 1920s, named after his daughter, and became known for his distinctive pressed glass objects in Art Deco style. Schlevogt's designs were often characterized by sculptural figurative motifs, geometric shapes, and richly colored, opaque glass—especially his distinctive malachite green—that he used to imitate carved jade and other luxe gemstones. His work combined artistic refinement with innovative industrial techniques, making decorative glass accessible while preserving a high-quality aesthetic. Today, Curt Schlevogt pieces are highly valued by collectors for their bold colors, elegant relief decoration, and iconic Art Deco character. The object offered here has a very high rarity value and is seldom offered. The box is in excellent condition; hardly any signs of use and no damage. Only in the lower edge of the lid, in the protruding part, is there a minimal chip near one corner, about 3 mm long, 1 mm wide and 1 mm deep. Given the location of the chip, this is hardly disruptive. The object will be shipped by registered mail, insured, and professionally packaged; pickup in Alkmaar (Netherlands) is also possible. The photos are part of the description.
