CØUD*3TAT (1984) - DOLLARS BARREL

Dollar Barrel is an original and unique work by CØUD*3TAT (Coup d’État), entirely handmade on a real small metal barrel. The work distorts the codes of money, luxury and success to create a sculptural object that is at once Pop Art, Street Art and contemporary. The entire barrel is covered with decorative 100-dollar bills, assembled and worked by hand. The surface is then enriched with gold metal leaf, pigments, color splashes and multiple interventions carried out directly on the support. The upper part is one of the most spectacular elements of the piece: a transparent epoxy resin composition with depth effect, incorporating bills, graphic elements, gold leaves and genuine commemorative silver coins. The layering of the different levels creates a true 3D effect, giving the impression of looking inside a vortex or a well of wealth. The contrast between the deep blue of the resin, gold, silver and the bills creates significant variations depending on light and viewing angle. The lower part also bears the inscription: “YOU ARE THE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK” integrated directly into the composition. This is not a mass-produced decorated industrial object but an original work executed individually by hand, with its own textures, irregularities, reliefs and traces of creation.
