Old manuscript Qur’an – 4 single sheets, recto-verso – 8 handwritten pages Originating from a Qur’an on detached sheets. 17 cm × 12 cm. Probable date: second half of the 17th century, 1st half of the 19th century. Circa 1750–1850.. 4 single recto-verso handwritten sheets, i.e. 8 handwritten pages, from the same old Arabic Qur’anic manuscript preserved as detached sheets. The set comes from a portion of a Qur’an (juzʾ) and contains several identifiable surahs. Among the passages formally recognized on the sheets are notably surah al-Mulk (الملك, surah 67) as well as the final surahs of the Qur’an, including al-Ikhlāṣ (الإخلاص, 112), al-Falaq (الفلق, 113) and al-Nās (الناس, 114). The Qur’anic text is copied in Arabic in a large, regular and highly legible script in black ink, abundantly vocalized and punctuated with auxiliary marks. The titles and indications relating to the surahs are rubricated in red-orange ink, as are some read signs and separators. The written surface is delimited by a multicolored manuscript border with several narrow lines, mainly red-orange and black, occasionally with a blue-green line. The surah changes are particularly decorative, their title, traditional classification and number of verses may be written in red before the basmala, بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Provenance of the sheets This sheet comes from a set of handwritten sheets. The sheets were kept in a case of a binding type after the sheets, with an old catalog card in Arabic that allows documenting its identification and chronological attribution. It notably bears: اسم الكتاب : جزء من القرآن الكريم Ism al-kitāb: Juzʾ min al-Qurʾān al-Karīm Book title: a part of the Noble Qur’an. The field reserved for the scribe’s name (اسم الكاتب) is not filled. The card then indicates: تاريخ الكتابة : القرن العاشر الهجري Tārīkh al-kitāba: al-qarn al-ʿāshir al-hijrī Date of copying: 10th century AH. 4 simple recto-verso sheets from an Arabic Qur’anic manuscript. Set of 8 handwritten Qur’anic pages, Old Qur’anic manuscript – 4 recto-verso sheets – 8 pages – Arabic calligraphy – Surahs Al-Mulk, Al-Insān, Al-Mursalāt, An-Nabaʾ and a passage from Al-Baqara Set of 4 handwritten recto-verso sheets, i.e. 8 pages, from the same ancient Qur’an. Qur’anic text in black ink, fully vocalized, with red, blue and black signs and indications, in an elegant double-lined red and blue border. Some marginal handwritten notes. The pages contain several passages from the Qur’an, notably Surahs Al-Mulk (The Sovereignty), Al-Insān (Man), Al-Mursalāt (The Messengers) and An-Nabaʾ (The News). One page preserves the beginning of An-Nabaʾ with the Basmala, followed by “About what do they question one another? About the Great News…”. Texts devoted notably to the power and oneness of God, the Resurrection, the Day of Judgment, and rewards of Paradise. *Care advice, as very fragile.
