Colnago C40 Carbon - Vintage Carbon Fiber Racing Bicycle Campagnolo Record Chorus GENERAL DESCRIPTION Up for auction an authentic icon of modern cycling and international collecting, the legendary Colnago C40. Designed by Ernesto Colnago, the C40 represents the first carbon fiber bicycle to win Paris-Roubaix, revolutionizing the history of race frames. The monocoque frame with exposed carbon joints showcases the famous Art Decor livery in yellow, green, and purple on a glossy carbon base, enhanced by Ernesto Colnago’s autograph on the top tube and the unmistakable carbon fork with the clover and Colnago pantograph inscription. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND VISIBLE COMPONENTS The bicycle features a high-end mixed-era configuration signed Campagnolo. The drivetrain includes a Campagnolo Chorus 9-speed rear derailleur, Campagnolo Record front derailleur, Campagnolo Record aluminum crankset with a double chainring, and Campagnolo Record Carbon BB-System integrated brake/shift levers with carbon fiber levers. The braking system uses traditional Campagnolo brake bodies. The cockpit comprises a Ritchey black finish handlebar stem and drop, paired with a carbon seatpost and ergonomic sport saddle. Completing the setup are a frame bottle cage and vintage Campagnolo Khamsin wheels with gold-anodized hubs and 28-inch aluminum rims. CONDITION AND RECOMMENDED WORK As a preserved vintage specimen sourced from a collection and stored in a depot for some time, the carbon frame structure and the components are in generally excellent condition, free of cracks or structural damage. As this is an era-appropriate vehicle kept in rest, before taking it back on the road a routine full-service check is recommended, including lubrication of the moving parts, indexing of gears and brakes, and inspection of tires and tubes. Aesthetic condition shows bright Art Decor paint and graphics with only normal signs of use or light surface scratches related to time. A spoke to be replaced.
