Colima Culture Ballplayer – 3rd Century BC to 3rd Century AD Provenance: Acquired in the Netherlands at an auction house. Previously acquired at the Gallery Alderink in Amsterdam in 1960/1970. A large Colima terracotta figure depicting a standing ballplayer, modeled with an expressive face, prominent nose and large ears, wearing a distinctive headpiece and a circular chest ornament. The figure raises one arm while the other supports a long staff or implement, with the compact body, powerful stance and reddish-brown surface characteristic of Colima sculptural traditions. Traces of dark surface coloration and mineral deposits remain across the body. The figure has been professionally restored, with the intervention carefully executed and only minimally visible. Material: Terracotta Dimensions: 43 cm height Provenance: Acquired in the Netherlands at an auction house. Previously acquired at the Gallery Alderink in Amsterdam in 1960/1970.
