Cleveland, Texas. $20 1929 Ty. 1. Fr. 1802-1. First NB. Charter #10276. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20 Details. Partially Removed Stains. Named after a local judge rather than the city's better-known counterpart from Ohio, Cleveland was nonetheless served by only a single National Bank between 1912 and 1935. Here the First National Bank (Charter# 10276) kept a miniscule circulation that hovered around $6,250 for much of the bank's history until 1934 when a sharp increase was recorded. Today less than a dozen non-institutional notes are enumerated here by the National Bank Note Census with only a smattering of auction appearances dating back to 2005. Even so a consistent pattern is noticed among those notes as strong prices indicative of a competitive process demonstrate that this lot is both a noted rarity and opportunity among the litany of banks spread across the vast rural landscape of Texas. PCGS Banknote comments "Partially Removed Stains." Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
