Citizen Promaster ALTICHRON in Titanium. It was launched in the 1980s and completed, together with Aqualand and Aerochron, the range of Citizen sport watches. Altichron had among its features the ability to measure pressure and altitude (from -300m to +5000m), extremely useful functions for climbers or simply for lovers of “tech toys.” Encased in a case with the typical Citizen sports design: a sensing pillar placed at 9 o’clock and the different functions managed at 2, 4, 8 and 10 respectively. In 2013 Citizen presents the new Citizen Promaster Altichron, a diver’s watch up to 200m, equipped with a compass and altimeter (no barometer). What immediately strikes is the design of the watch. To say it is successful would be simplistic: it vaguely recalls the first Citizen Promaster Altichron but it is, in order: more attractive, has a decidedly original appearance, and is the fruit of a new stylistic direction. With a build quality that raises the standards of the Promaster family. And then, any digital display disappeared! It is a 100% analog watch! If you look at the dial, the four concentric sub-dials recall another little-known but very beautiful watch produced in a limited edition by A. Dunhill years ago, the Pentagraph A-Centric. The look of the Citizen Promaster Altichron is however typically high-tech, with aviation-inspired, skeletonized hands, and colored as the reference scales, to aid reading on a very crowded dial. The main focus is on reading hours, minutes and seconds: in short, the Citizen Promaster Altichron is a five-hand watch (six with the 9 o’clock hand). The dial is an extravaganza of information: the functions guaranteed by the electronic brain of the Citizen Promaster Altichron are many and the logic is complex; in short, it’s a wrist computer, so describing them all in a single article is impossible, you would miss it and I would understand you, but if you want to know more, arm yourself with a bit of patience!. Movement: the caliber of the Citizen Promaster Altichron is an Eco-Drive, so it charges with natural light via a photovoltaic cell placed under the dial, according to a precise table that links exposure time to light and charging duration. The power reserve indicator is at 9 o’clock on a scale divided into four sectors from 0 to 340 days. If the watch is low on charge (indicator in the first sector) the measuring functions are inhibited. Altimeter: it is activated and deactivated by pressing the button at 8 o’clock; the reading is obtained through three hands; the indications are on a base of 1000, 100 and 2.5 meters. The power reserve dial, thanks to the external white numbered scale, serves to indicate altitudes from 1000 to 10000 meters. The central dial indicates altitude from -300 to 900 meters.
