Circa 1970s Malcolm Hall, London Black Velvet Jacket, Circa 1970s Malcolm Hall, London Black Velvet Jacket with satin mounted collar with zig zag detail to the back, sharp elongated lapels, long sleeves, satin type mount to the front panels cut on the diagonal, satin trimmed pockets, single breasted with three buttons and stylish zig zag shape to button fastening (labelled size L), and Malcolm Hall, London Black Velvet Trousers with attached waistband and curvilinear stitching (labelled size 34), (2), Malcolm Hall, London Black Velvet Trousers Malcolm Hall launched his label in 1972, having previously worked as an Assistant Designer at iconic brand of the Swinging Sixties, Ossie Clark. With pieces exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum, Halls designs are described by the Manchester Art Gallery as “superbly tailored and yet imaginative”. He became known for his vibrant colours and patterns with a diverse range of fabrics including satin, velvet, leather and denim that he still uses to produce garments today. This trademark flair can be observed in Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin’s ivory, painted satin suit. The ensemble was decorated with Egyptian symbols including the “Eye of Thoth” and “Nut, Goddess of the sky” to reflect Page’s interest in the occult. While also producing ready to wear clothes, Malcolm Hall’s other celebrity clients included The Rolling Stones, ABBA, Diana Ross and David Bowie.
