A pair of charming Japanese cast-iron sake kettles 銚子 (chôshi), of matching form. The rounded bodies have a subtle orange-peel-like textured surface and are each raised on three small pointed feet. Both are fitted with warm-toned copper loop handles and removable iron lids, each surmounted by a brass chrysanthemum-shaped knob 菊 (kiku). The long projecting spouts are characteristically flattened towards the end. Complete with their wooden storage box 箱 (hako). Dimensions: Height 14 cm, Length 21.5 cm, Depth 14 cm. Period: Japan - Taishô period (1912-1926) In very good antique condition with only minimal traces of wear consistent with age. Both kettles have been tested with water and showed no signs of leakage.
