Chinesco Seated Pottery Figure with Splayed Legs, Nayarit

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco. A pottery figure of a seated person with outstretched legs slipped in red and cream with black details. The rounded head is capped by a cream band, and the face is painted red with small black dot eyes, a pointed nose, and ears set at the sides. The arms are modeled in low relief against a cream-slipped torso, with the hands resting at the waist. The legs spread wide and taper to rounded points, finished in red slip.
