Reverse: Plain, with no legends or mint marks. - Grade: XF45 (GBCA). Bronze 1 Cash coin minted during the Shaosheng era of Emperor Zhezong of the Northern Song dynasty. The obverse features the inscription Shaosheng Yuanbao in running script, characterized by fluid and elegant strokes that reflect the high artistic level reached by Chinese calligraphy during the Song period. The characters retain notable definition and stand out clearly against the fields, while the reverse remains plain, in line with the typical typology of many coin issues from this period. The surface shows an attractive dark green patina with areas of reddish-brown oxidation and ancient mineral deposits that add authenticity and historical character to the specimen. The reliefs remain well preserved, with moderate and uniform wear in keeping with the XF45 grade. This piece belongs to a period of political consolidation and economic prosperity of the Northern Song dynasty, a time when monetary production achieved great typological and calligraphic diversity, becoming one of the richest and most studied in all Chinese numismatics.
