CHINA. Kwangtung. 3 Mace 6-1/2 Candareens (50 Cents), ND (1889). Kwangtung

Commendable Minor from the Failed "Reversed" Pattern Series CHINA. Kwangtung. 3 Mace 6-1/2 Candareens (50 Cents), ND (1889). Kwangtung Mint (struck from Heaton Mint dies). Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, EF Details. L&M-124; K-17; KM-Y-197; WS-0932; Wenchao-553 (rarity: ★★★). Emanating from a series that, due to the placement of the design elements, simply never caught on, this minor represents the initial output from Kwangtung and offers all of the refinement and precision that one would expect from Heaton-engraved dies. Some pleasing toning is noted, mostly upon the side conveying the emperor's name, though some light staining is noted there as well. Meanwhile, the noted chopmark occurs on the dragon side, near the outer rim at 2 o'clock. Nevertheless, a great opportunity for the collector seeking a charming example of this ever elusive and popular RARITY. Estimate: $10,000 - $20,000.
