Pei Yang's Initial "Dragon Dollar" CHINA. Chihli (Pei Yang). 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), Year 22 (1896). Tientsin (East Arsenal) Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS VF-30. L&M-439; K-181; KM-Y-65; WS-0603; Wenchao-606 (rarity: ★★★★). Without a doubt, the RAREST crown within the Chihli series, this initial entrant displays the somewhat more caricatured dragon style synonymous with the earlier series, with some scattered marks and subtle abrasions in the fields, though none impair its originality. Some scattered mottling of color is observed as well, but this piece nevertheless presents a great opportunity for a type not at all encountered with any degree of frequency. According to contemporary Chinese customs reports, the mintage figure for this first year crown was a mere 3,000 pieces. Estimate: $40,000 - $60,000. Estimate:$24,000
