CHEVIGNÉ (Count of). *Les Contes rémois*. Paris: Alphonse Lemerre, Jouaust, 1873. Large 8vo, fawn morocco, wide border of straight and dotted fillets, fleurons at the corners, richly gilt spine, interior lace, gilt head, untrimmed, cover (Pierson). New edition of the satirical tales by Louis de Chevigné, poet and son-in-law of the Widow Clicquot, owner of the renowned Champagne house. Portrait of the author etched by Flameng. One of 120 copies from the large-paper edition in in-8 format. A unique copy, illustrated on the half-titles and in the margins with 240 original watercolors and pen-and-ink drawings in black, blue, and pink, signed by E. Chabod. It comes from the library of Alfred Werlé (I, 1908, no. 104), a Champagne wine merchant and a great bibliophile from the Champagne region. One half-title page is missing (pp. 121–122).
