Chattanooga, Tennessee. Bank of Chattanooga. 1859 $100. PCGS Currency Fine 15. No. 1075. Plate A. Another lovely obligation of the Bank of Chattanooga which was explicitly payable at its subsidiary branch in Memphis. This example offers a particularly enthralling composition anchored by a climatic vignette depicting the Battle of New Orleans where Andrew Jackson can be seen on horseback in the background. At left, a portrait of Senator Hugh Lawson White (a mainstay of Tennessee Obsoletes) can be encountered alongside and opposite a number of intricate counters while scrollwork that echoes the Legal Tender Notes of the 1870s can be found throughout much of the design. Penned signatures attributable to the bank's Cashier and President are also noticed. PCGS Currency comments "Rust Stains on Back at Right; Pinholes." Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Whitman Plate Note.
