Iconic Fugio and Sundial Motif CC-20. Continental Currency. February 17, 1776. $1/3. PCGS Currency Choice About New 58 PPQ. No. 387023. Plate B. Burdened with even and balanced margins seen in company of excellent eye appeal. The fractional denominations issued under the Resolution of February, 17 1776 are a particularly popular entry in the numismatic canon owing to the use of Franklin's sundial rebus accompanied by the phrase "MIND YOUR BUSINESS" that would later be reused for the Fugio Cents of 1787 along with the 13 interlocking rings on the back. Also of interest is the misspelling of the word "CURRENCEY" seen at right along the margin that demonstrates the fallibility of period printers. Yet to the collector, the attractive nature of the design is what matters and this is undoubtedly the perfect example for the collector looking to represent this popular design that oozes with symbolic associations. Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
