Castilian chest with napkin decoration, Spanish School, 17th Century

Descriptio Carved and assembled walnut wood with wrought iron fittings. Measures 68 x 157 x 63 cm. A substantial, large-format chest made of walnut with a robust structure and carved decoration in the Castilian tradition. The front features complex ornamentation of geometric scrolls and "napkin" motifs, articulated by molded panels and three locks with cut iron escutcheons that reinforce its monumental presence. The carving displays a marked sense of rhythm and volume, accentuated by the contrast of light on the curved surfaces and the natural grain of the wood. The original fittings and assembled joints demonstrate traditional techniques typical of 17th-century Spanish furniture, designed both for storage and as a symbol of domestic status. The piece reflects the sobriety and monumentality of Castilian Baroque furniture, where the decorative richness arises from the sculptural work of the wood rather than from superimposed elements. It stands out for the quality of the carving and the architectural strength of its composition. 68 x 157 x 63 cm. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
