Story & Heritage The Cartier Tank is one of the most celebrated designs in the history of watchmaking. First introduced in 1917 by Louis Cartier, its distinctive rectangular silhouette was inspired by the geometric lines of military tanks during the First World War. Over the decades, the Tank became a symbol of sophistication, elegance and understated luxury, admired by artists, intellectuals, style icons and collectors around the world. In the 1970s, Cartier introduced the Must de Cartier collection, bringing the maison's unmistakable design language to a new generation of watch enthusiasts. One of the defining characteristics of this collection was the use of Vermeil cases — sterling silver covered with gold, offering the appearance of precious-metal luxury while maintaining a distinctive identity within Cartier's watchmaking heritage. The minimalist dial, blue cabochon crown and rectangular case became enduring signatures of the Must de Cartier Tank. This particular example features a champagne dial with the Cartier double-C monogram, creating a subtle yet recognisable expression of the maison's identity. Its naturally aged dial gives the watch an individual vintage character, while its elegant proportions make it a versatile accessory for collectors who appreciate classic Cartier design. More than a timepiece, the Must de Cartier Tank represents an important chapter in the history of accessible luxury and timeless French elegance. A distinctive vintage Cartier for collectors and enthusiasts of iconic watch design. Internal Reference Number - ITM 959
