Carola Castro - Cubist Memory

Carola Castro Art between past and present. Contemporary Painting-Madrid Carola Castro is an artist based in Madrid whose painting arises from the dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity. Her language stems from a fascination with art history and with artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Manolo Valdés and Miró, but she does not seek to reproduce them, rather to reinterpret their codes from a personal perspective. One of the elements that defines her work is the use of old frames. For Carola Castro, the frame is not a secondary element; it is part of the work. “I am interested in a work that seems to have lived before arriving to us.” Original acrylic work on paper, glass and matting. I regularly access parameters I consider recurrent, such as the constant assimilation of images from the past, playing with others’ language, focusing on old and modern painters. I feel a constant diving sensation into the depths of history. My study and research of the Cubist movement, especially the entire extensive trajectory of Picasso, takes me to unknown territories. In each painting I try to make a review of the problems and solutions Picasso posed with Cubism. Cubism, for me, is a very important pictorial movement within the history of art. “CAROLA CASTRO.” Trained in several studios of prestigious artists.
