Cane di Pho - Box - Antique in metal / brass / Oriental - Pho's Dog Box

Box in the shape of a Pho Dog, embossed, chased, and engraved metal. Measurements: 10 cm x 8 cm x 5 cm Weight: 125 g Material: brass; interior silvered Cambodia First half of the 20th century Description This object is a box in the shape of a Pho Dog (also known as the Guard Lion or Foo Dog), a typical element of Asian traditional art and craftsmanship (notably Tibetan and Cambodian traditions), historically used as a trinket box, jewelry box, or container for betel. Below is a detailed description of its visual and structural elements: Form and Subject • Depiction: The box reproduces the stylized, zoomorphic features of a Pho Dog. The head is distinguished by the bold, grotesque features typical of this protective mythological figure: wide, wide-open eyes ringed around, a broad, flattened nose, and an open, snarling mouth showing sharp teeth. • Body: The figure is crouched, with the paws tucked at the base. On the hind part a short, curled tail rests on the back. Material and Craftsmanship • Material: The object is made of metal/brass. The surface shows a matte golden patina alternating with darker, oxidized areas typical of aged metal. • Decorative technique: The entire surface is finely relief-worked. The creature’s body is densely incised with wavy-line motifs and dense textures to simulate the thick fur of the mythical lion. The structure is divided horizontally into two parts: the back and the head form the lid, while the legs and belly constitute the base of the container. Condition: good, some oxidation and signs of age Tracked shipment via courier
