Mahogany & Brass – probably Sweden, c. 1800 – Numbered A rare pair of Late Gustavian (Sengustavianska) candlesticks, dating to circa 1800, combining richly figured mahogany with finely cast brass mounts. Their architectural form, floral decoration, square stepped bases and paw feet are characteristic of the Swedish Neoclassical tradition. The candlesticks feature tapered mahogany columns with applied gilt-brass ornaments, elegant floral drip pans and campana-shaped candle sockets. The underside is fitted with a central threaded fixing with square nut and numbered, “5356”. Condition Excellent 220 years old condition with minimal signs of age and historic use. The mahogany has been professionally polished and waxed, bringing out its deep reddish-brown colour and attractive grain. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition report.
