LANDSCAPE OF MEMORY is a lyrical abstract of great balance, suspended between landscape and memory. At first glance it is an essential marine landscape, almost zen: a horizon line scorched by an ocher rust that divides the painting into two worlds. Above, the void – a dirty white, chalky, scratched, with traces of drips and craquelure that recall an old wall. Below, the depth – a dense, tactile, layered water in petroleum blue, moss green, and indigo shadows. I worked by subtraction, but with an exceedingly rich material. The massing is tactile, almost sculptural. You can hear spatulas, scrapes, overlapped glazes. That orange band in the center is not just color; it is oxidation, it is time. It looks like rust seeping from the sky toward the water, or the reflection of an industrial sunset. The mark. Then there are those vertical lines, thin, black, like needles. They break the composition and hold it together. They could be very distant sails, trees, antennas, stylized human figures, or simply scars. They are the human element in an inhuman landscape: fragile, precarious, yet stubborn. They create rhythm, like notes on a score. It is a work that does not shout. It whispers. It speaks of boundary, of waiting, of something that lies between the visible and the invisible. It has the elegant melancholy of Rothko encountered with the humble materiality of Burri. Perfect for a contemporary interior because it does not decorate a wall; it inhabits it: it brings calm, depth, and a oblique light, just like the one that falls on your photo. It is an abstract that manages to be warm and cold at the same time, and for this reason it never tires."
