Cameroun - Africa Cup of Nations - 2000 - Football shirt

GOM KOME CAMEROON 2002 MATCH WORN SHIRT One jersey, one ban, absolute legendary status… Do you know the story behind this iconic Indomitable Lions kit? Back in 2002, Puma and the Cameroon national team shattered football design conventions by dropping a... sleeveless jersey! After dominating Africa and winning the 2002 AFCON in the green home version, Cameroon was ready to rock this stunning white away edition at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. But FIFA completely ruined the party... The governing body ruled that these were "vests" rather than shirts. Their main argument? It was impossible to print the official tournament patches onto the sleeves—simply because there weren't any! The verdict: an official ban. To avoid a disqualification or heavy fines, Puma had to stitch ultra-thin black sleeves onto the original kits at the very last minute right before the World Cup matches kick-off. This specific shirt featuring the number 23 belonged to midfielder Daniel N'Gom Kome, a member of that golden generation alongside greats like Samuel Eto'o, Rigobert Song, and Patrick Mboma. A true holy grail for football shirt collectors that changed sportswear history forever.
