All auctions / Lighting / Call bell - France - Mechanical bell

Splendid and authentic mechanical over-door bell (pull bell) dating from the late 19th century or the very early 20th century (late Umbertine Era / Belle Époque). This device represents a fascinating example of industrial and domestic archaeology, originally used to signal guests' entry or to summon the service staff. The mechanism is mounted on a sturdy cast-iron base plate. Overall dimensions: length about 43 cm. The resonating dome, with a diameter of about 9.5 cm (3.75 inches), is made from a rich brass/bronze alloy that over time has developed a magnificent and warm original dark patina, highly sought after by collectors and not artificially polished to preserve its historical authenticity. Characteristics and Condition: • Completeness: The lot includes its very rare original pull rod with the distinctive decorative spiral handle (tortiglione). • Operation: Fully functional. The spring maintains excellent tension and the levers move smoothly. The bell sounds perfectly, releasing a clear, strong, and ringing tone. • Condition: Excellent overall condition, structurally intact, with no cracks or repairs. Exhibits the normal and fascinating signs of age that certify its authenticity. A perfect antique piece for both technical antique collectors and as a functional decorative element for restoration projects of historic houses or atmospheric hotels.
