atural Calcareous Sponge – Large Sculptural Cup-Shaped Specimen – Philippines A striking natural calcareous sponge from the Philippines, characterized by a massive cup-shaped formation and an unusually sculptural external structure. This specimen presents a deep central cavity surrounded by thick, irregular walls, while the exterior develops into rounded folds, lobes and bulbous formations that give the piece a highly organic and almost geological appearance. The asymmetrical silhouette is particularly attractive, with the lower and lateral areas showing pronounced natural growths that create depth and movement. The entire surface is covered with a fine porous texture, clearly visible both inside and outside the specimen. Its warm natural coloration ranges from sandy beige and ochre to terracotta and earthy brown, with darker areas accentuating the cavities and surface relief. The combination of its substantial form, rugged texture and naturally eroded-looking contours gives this piece a strong decorative presence. It can be appreciated equally as a natural history specimen, a cabinet of curiosities object or a sculptural element in a refined interior. Natural irregularities, surface variations and minor marine traces are present and are consistent with the authentic origin and formation of the specimen.
