No registration certificate No MOT OSSA was founded in 1924 by Manuel Giró in Barcelona, initially as a manufacturer of cinema projectors. It was in 1949 that the brand ventured into motorcycling, with a first 125 cm³ model that laid the foundations for a rigorous and ambitious engineering philosophy. The 125 A, nicknamed ‘Palillos’ (‘sticks’ in Spanish), a reference to the slenderness of its forks and tubular frame, was one of the first expressions of this vision. Its 125 cm³ single-cylinder two-stroke engine is a simple yet efficient piece of engineering, built with the care of a company seeking to establish itself in a Spanish market then in the midst of reconstruction. Lightweight, economical and accessible, it met the needs of a generation rediscovering mobility in 1950s Spain. Its slender tubular frame, from which it derives its nickname, gives it a delicate and distinctive silhouette, immediately recognisable amongst contemporary models. 1953 was a formative year for OSSA; the brand had only been in the motorbike business for four years, and every machine produced still bore the mark of an undiminished founding passion. Almost all examples of this generation have disappeared, victims of the passage of time and intensive use in a Spain that did not yet preserve its vintage machines.
