Middle Byzantine Bronze Signet Ring with Engraved Bezel – 9th to 10th Century AD A substantial Middle Byzantine bronze signet ring featuring a broad hoop expanding into a prominent oval bezel decorated with a deeply engraved stylised motif, probably intended to function as a personal emblem or monogrammatic seal. The strongly integrated bezel and heavy shoulders are characteristic of Byzantine signet rings of the Middle Byzantine period, when engraved rings were used both as personal ornaments and as practical seals associated with identity and ownership. The surface displays an attractive dark brown and green archaeological patina with areas of mineral deposition and wear consistent with considerable age.
