All auctions / Ancient Art / Byzantine Bronze Byzantine Bronze Ring with Punched Dot...
A Byzantine cast bronze finger ring with an oval bezel decorated with small punched dots and curved engraved lines arranged into a simple, symmetrical geometric composition. Such dotted motifs were common in Byzantine jewellery, reflecting a taste for abstract, repetitive ornament. The slightly raised bezel is smoothly integrated with a thick hoop typical of Byzantine bronze rings. Rings of this type were worn as personal ornaments and occasionally used as simple signets. The surface shows natural wear and a dark grey patina consistent with ancient bronze. With an intact hoop, this is a genuine, wearable and displayable Byzantine antiquity. Material: Bronze Culture / Period: Byzantine · Circa 4th–7th century AD Motif: Punched dot decoration with curved lines Function: Personal ornamental ring / possible simple signet Diameter: 23.1 mm Weight: 5.2 g Condition: Intact hoop with visible age patina (as shown in the photographs) Please note: The item is sold as found. The photographs form part of the description. Detailed acquisition / provenance information is provided in the accompanying provenance record.
