14 very rare surviving episodes from period from Sunday Comics sections of the European Edition of The New York Herald featuring episodes of Buster Brown on one each single full page. Outstanding artwork of R.F. Outcalt ! Fragile pages. The European edition of The New York Herald (often called the Paris Herald) was founded in Paris on October 4, 1887, by James Gordon Bennett Jr. to serve American expatriates, travelers, and the international community in Europe. Launch of the Color Comic Supplement: In 1904, the newspaper introduced a landmark weekly feature: a four-page Sunday color supplement printing American comic strips in their original English version (a run that lasted from 1904 to 1914). Buster Brown was created in 1902 by Richard F. Outcault. The comic strip began in the New York Herald on May 4, 1902. Outcault left for William Randolph Hearst's employ in January 1906. After a court battle, Outcault continued his strip in Hearst papers, now nameless as can be seen in the images. The Herald continued their own version of Buster Brown with other artists. The latter lasted until January 1911, and Outcault's version until May 13, 1923. The pages are in good condition, although wrinkles, tears, flaking and missing pieces may occur. Will be shipped with track&trace. The lots in this auction can be shipped combined. This is taken into account up to a weight of 5 kg. If packages need to be split due to weight, an additional charge will apply. In this case, we will contact you. #specialcollectionservice
