Burmese amber - Amber - Burmese Amber with Well-Preserved...

Burmese amber with a well-preserved fossil caddisfly (Trichoptera) from the Cretaceous. The inclusion shows a comparatively large winged insect, whose characteristic features are clearly recognizable under magnification. Preserved are, among other things, the head with clearly visible compound eyes, thorax, abdomen, legs, as well as large areas of both pairs of wings. Especially the elongated wings lying over the body and their structure argue for an assignment to the Trichoptera (caddisflies). In addition to the main inclusion, the amber contains various natural organic or plant components, fine particles and gas bubbles. These accompanying inclusions further document the natural formation context of the amber. The piece was photographed from several sides. The macro-/microscope images show the fossil inclusion in strong magnification. Details: Material: Natural Burmese amber (Burmite) Find region: Myanmar Age: Cretaceous, about 99 million years Main inclusion: Caddisfly (Trichoptera) Weight: 1.03 g Preservation: Good to very good, essential body and wing structures preserved Accompanying inclusions: Organic/plant residues, fine particles and gas bubbles Processing: Cut and polished Note on identification: The identification as Trichoptera is based on the morphological features visible in the present microscope images. A more detailed determination down to family or genus level is intentionally not performed.
