Bulbous cowrie: Cypraea ventriculus (46 mm) – Flawless...

An exquisite highlight for any discerning collection of cowries. The Cypraea ventriculus (scientifically recognized as Lyncina ventriculus), also known as Belly Cowrie, fascinates with its exceptionally heavy, robust shell architecture and the markedly broadened, almost angular flanks. The shell design captivates with a beautiful interplay of a reddish-brown to orange back and the characteristic fine vertical lines on the sides. At an excellent size of 46 mm, this piece shows a flawless, mirror-smooth enamel layer with absolutely pristine depth gloss. Origin This authentic collectible hails from the remote, pristine coral reefs of the Gilbert Islands (Micronesia, Pacific Ocean). Shells from this geographically isolated region are highly sought after by collectors due to their rarity and often particularly intense color expression.
