What remains today of their towns and villages emptied of their inhabitants? It is to answer this question that I went to Israel: to locate and photograph the vestiges of these ghostly localities vanished in the whirl of the 1948 war. This report is a journey through time; a visual trek to the origins of the refugee issue. These images are a testimony to a key moment in the region’s history whose consequences are today at the heart of our current affairs.
