Bruno Canova (1925-2012) - Oświęcim and Brzezinka - Interno di una baracca

The work depicts the interior of one of the prisoners' wooden huts (called Block) at the Nazi concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Oświęcim and Brzezinka are neighboring localities in Poland that became globally known by the names imposed by the Germans, Auschwitz and Birkenau, during World War II. The scene is structured through a rigorous yet oppressive central perspective. This important drawing is a work by the Italian artist Bruno Canova (Bologna 1925 - Lacco Ameno 2012), a painter, engraver and intellectual deeply connected to the themes of historical memory, World War II and the Resistance, Marked by dramatic wartime experiences, since 1966 he has continuously worked on the exhibition “The Art of War,” presented in public spaces in many Italian cities. Among his various participations are the Rome Quadriennials of 1965 and 1986, and the Italian Pavilion, Lazio section, of the 54th Venice Biennale. The work is presented with a frame.
