Attractive colour printed folding pictorial plan of the British Empire Exhibition (50 x 75 cm) with a description of the various rail routes to Wembley Park beneath. Title in elaborately decorated cartouche capped with the Royal coat of arms. Two further decorative cartouches with an explanation of the plan and information on travelling to the exhibition. A message from Edward, Prince of Wales set in a scrolled cartouche beneath the railway map.* Title with information on the the dates and admission prices to the fair on one end section of the verso. Text, photographs and advertisements related to the exhibition printed on verso. Minor nicks along folds, generally an excellent example. The map draws many stylistic comparisons with MacDonald Gill's cartographic designs of this period with its use of strapwork cartouches, decorative compass rose, and coat of arms. Also includes notes on exhibition and an unfurled scrollwork banner inscribed with a note from Edward Prince of Wales. Map shows underground and overground trains, Circle and District Lines, providing a circular focal point, lower right, in which he has placed a silhouette of Nelson's Column and the Westminister and City skyline, with the inscription "Heart of the Empire", Wembley site shown with its gardens, avenues, lakes, exhibition pavilions and amusement park, the latter hidden from public view beneath a blue and white striped big top tent. On verso of the map a comprehensive printed guide to the Exhibition itself, with descriptions of the site and the different Palaces, including views various landmarks and the exhibition site. *The message from Edward, Prince of Wales reads: "We must unite to make The British Empire Exhibition a success worthy of our race - I shall hope to see many friends from the Dominions and Colonies at Wembley Park in 1924".
