Boyce Amsterdam - Flower pot - Steel

Unique Outsider Art Assemblage Sculpture / Flower Pot – Made from a Vintage Boyce Amsterdam CO2 Fire Extinguisher (ca. 1950/60) – Art Movement: Outsider Art / Industrial Folk Art / Assemblage Art / Art Brut Material: Upcycled cast iron & steel (vintage gas cylinder, pipe bends), acrylic paint Origin of base material: Boyce Fabrieken N.V., Amsterdam (stamped) Special features: Unique hand-welded one-off piece (Piece Unique), signed on the leg with a blue monogram motif and dancing figures Condition: Excellent characterful condition with authentic patina A Fascinating Masterpiece of Industrial Outsider Art Bid on this utterly unique, characterful and emotionally charged assemblage sculpture which also functions as an exclusive flower pot or art object. This one-off work (piece unique) combines raw industrial history with an expressive, almost melancholic storyline. The object depicts an anthropomorphic being on sturdy legs, complete with welded facial features, painted details such as teardrops on the cheeks and piercing, hand-painted eyes. Historical Origin & Manufacturing: Boyce Amsterdam The heart of this sculpture has a rich history. The torso of the figure is constructed from the upper part of a vintage CO2 fire extinguisher from the 1950s/60s, produced by the renowned Boyce Fabriken N.V. in Amsterdam. At the underside of the rounded torso lies the authentic, deeply stamped factory seal: LS No 36... BOYCE - AMSTERDAM CO2 The artist cut this heavy steel cylinder, transformed it upside down, and ingeniously provided it with hand-welded steel pipe bends and profiles that form the legs and feet. Art Movement & Style: Industrial Folk Art / Art Brut This work sits perfectly within the Outsider Art, Art Brut and Industrial Assemblage Art movements. Artists in this genre transform discarded industrial objects into vivid, expressive characters. The contrast between the heavy, indestructible steel of the Amsterdam extinguisher and the vulnerable, emotional facial features (with painted teardrops and soft lip colors) makes this a powerful visual statement. The piece evokes memories of the creative workshops on the famous Amsterdam NDSM site and the free-spirited artist community of Ruigoord. Signature & Exclusive Details The piece is finished with care and attention to detail. On the knee of the right pipe is a striking, blue sign/mark: A subtle motif of a knotted blue ribbon with a graceful bow/ligature monogram. Directly above this blue band are small, orange/brown painted dancing human figures. These unique details confirm that this is the work of a dedicated, contemporary artist who consciously endowed every part of the object with symbolism. Why this work should not be missing from your collection: 100% Unique (Piece Unique): There is no second example of this sculpture in the world. Amsterdam History: A beautiful piece of repurposed Amsterdam industrial heritage. Functional & Decorative: Perfect as a focal point in a modern interior, as a vase/flower pot, or as a standalone sculpture in an Outsider Art collection. Excellent Presentation: A heavy, solid object with an indomitable character and fantastic presence. Specifications Type: Assemblage sculpture / Character pot / Flower pot Origin: Netherlands (Amsterdam region) Base material dating: ca. 1950 – 1960 (Boyce Amsterdam) Sculpture dating: Contemporary / 21st century Condition: In very good condition with preserved original industrial traces, professionally welded and painted.
