Box - Wood - Mother-of-pearl inlay box

An atmospheric antique wooden box, richly decorated with exquisite inlay work featuring colorful, iridescent mother-of-pearl (khảm trai). A magnificent example of Eastern craftsmanship dating from the late 19th or early 20th century (Nguyen Dynasty / colonial period). The lid depicts a lively historical scene of warriors on horseback near a fortress and trees; details such as faces and clothing are finely engraved into the shell. The side panels are elegantly finished with floral motifs and traditional symbols. Specifications: Material: Dark tropical hardwood and mother-of-pearl (abalone) Dimensions: 20.8 cm (length) x 13.5 cm (width) x 9 cm (height) Type: Loose-fitting lid (no hinges) Condition: In authentic, used condition consistent with its age. The box shows characteristic signs of age, including a shrinkage crack in the wooden lid and a few small areas where pieces of mother-of-pearl inlay are missing (please see photos for a clear view). Despite these signs of age, the object retains a remarkably strong decorative and historical appeal. Ideal as a jewelry box, storage box, or as a unique antique decorative piece for the home.
