BOUCHET (Guillaume). First [- second; third] book of the *Serees*. Sold in Paris by Jeremie Perier, 1608. 3 volumes in-12, red half-maroquin with corner pieces, decorated spine, marbled edges (Bound circa 1820). A collection of humorous tales composed by the Poitou poet and bookseller Guillaume Bouchet (1526–1606) for those who wish to pleasantly pass their leisure time after dinner. It is a clever blend of erudition, amusing anecdotes, and deliberately risqué remarks on wine, women, dogs, cuckolds and those who have been cuckolded, those who are beheaded, hanged, flogged, blinded, and banished, etc. The first and third volumes are from the first collected edition of 1608, while the second is from the Rouen edition by Jean Crevel, 1615. Restoration at the upper corner of the title page in Volume I. Volume II: folio 216 and the last folio (blank?) are missing; there is a minor, insignificant paper loss at the bottom of folio H1. Water stain in Volume III. Some rounded corners; one spine damaged by worms in Volume I.
