Botany.- Smith (Frederick W.) The Florists' Magazine: A Register of the Newest and Most Beautiful Varieties of Florists' Flowers, 2 vol. in 1, reissue, engraved hand-coloured title and 59 plates, half-title, index to vol.1 and 2, without vol.2 title (?as issued), engraved title lightly foxed and browned, some light browning and offsetting, light staining, modern half-morocco, spine with red morocco labels to spine, contemporary label to upper cover, [Stafleu & Cowan 12.194], 4to, 1836. *** Rare botanical work. Pritzel calls for 72 plates as mentioned in the preface. However, Stafleu and Cowan note 47 and 59 plates, depending on their issue; in their note they also acknowledge that 'our information is evidently incomplete', which suggests that the series was most likely discontinued at an early stage.
