Ring Black Chalama Opal / Cabochon / new In 925. Sterling silver set Weight: 3.40 g New and unworn Ring size: U 55 UK O US 7.2 FR 15 Inner diameter: 17.5 mm Black opals, like their differently colored counterparts, occur as roughly spherical to nodular masses with no detectable crystal structure. Their beauty usually reveals itself only after the polishing of this material. Characteristic for this form of opals is their opalescence, which appears in intense play-of-color. Additionally, the host rock of the opal here is dark, gray to black, which earned it this name. Black opals form, just like other opals, from silica-rich fluids that crystallize in sedimentary or volcanic rocks. Their characteristic shimmer is due to water inclusions inside this mineral. Shipping as insured registered mail.
