All auctions / Miscellaneous / Bivaga (1972) - La Corona dell’Aurora
La Corona dell’Aurora presents a young woman emerging from a richly atmospheric world of flowers, gold and shadow. Her direct gaze establishes an immediate connection with the viewer, while the delicate gesture of her hand against her cheek introduces an intimate, almost contemplative quality. At the centre of the composition, the woman is framed by an elaborate floral arrangement and an ornamental crown. Roses, leaves and small blossoms unfold behind her like a natural halo, their warm colours echoing the gold and copper tones of her jewellery and garment. The abundance of botanical detail contrasts with the deep darkness surrounding the figure, allowing her illuminated face to remain the undeniable focal point. Bivaga draws upon the visual language of European court portraiture while introducing a heightened, almost dreamlike sensibility. The elaborate crown suggests dignity and ceremony, yet the expression of the sitter remains personal and vulnerable. Her slightly parted lips and luminous eyes create the impression of a fleeting emotional moment rather than a formal pose. Light moves carefully across the composition, revealing the smooth modelling of the face, the reflective surfaces of the jewellery and the intricate textures of the lace and fabric. The result is a portrait in which ornament becomes atmosphere, and beauty becomes a form of narrative. The work reflects Bivaga’s continuing interest in the meeting point between classical portraiture, romantic imagery and contemporary figurative painting. The woman appears almost suspended between the historical and the imagined, surrounded by symbols of beauty, femininity and transformation. Oil on Canvas By Bivaga ⸻ About the artist: Agatino Bivona, known artistically as Bivaga, was born in Biancavilla, Sicily, in 1972 and currently lives and works in Adrano. A pupil and close confidant of master Antonio Sciacca, Bivaga began his artistic journey at a young age and has spent over three decades refining his unmistakable visual language. His hyperrealistic portraits, rich in symbolism and emotional nuance, have been featured in major exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Celebrated in critical publications such as I Grandi Maestri (2009), and reviewed by prominent art critics like Nicola Villari and Alfredo Pasolino, Bivaga’s works are held in private collections across Europe, the United States, and Japan — carrying fragments of Sicilian elegance far beyond its borders. — Full catalogue on www.BivagaStudio.com Instagram: @bivagastudio Curated by Havisham & Co.
