BIBLE. — Biblia. Brief annotations on the same, drawn from the most learned interpretations and Hebrew commentaries. Paris, Robert Estienne, 1534. 8vo, red morocco, border decorated with small scrolls and oval compartments filled with a fleur-de-lis, surrounding a central rectangle adorned with a fan-shaped scroll in the corners and a rosette formed by the repetition of the same scroll in the center; decorated spine, inner roulette, gilt edges (17th-century binding). Portable Bible printed in two columns in small Roman type, modeled after the 1532 folio edition published by the scholar-printer Robert Estienne. (Renouard, pp. 39–40.) Rich fan-shaped binding in the style of Le Gascon. Two old handwritten bookplates on the title page, one of which has been erased. Red ink stamp on the last leaf of text. Title page damaged; a hole with loss of a few letters on folio 73; a few folios trimmed flush with the half-sills. The final, blank folio is detached. Binding rubbed; a wormhole in the decoration on the back cover.
