BERTHA LINTY Yulparija language, born 1937 Punmu, 2003 acrylic on canvas 80 x 80 cm signed verso 'Bertha'; bears Short St Gallery stamp and inscription verso: Bertha Linty, #2113, 80x80 cm PROVENANCE Short St Gallery, Western Australia, Cat No. 2113 Private Collection, The Netherlands Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Short St Gallery Punmu depicts Bertha Linty's birth Country and the Country of both her mother and father. It is a place of deep personal and cultural significance, remembered by the artist as a place where many people would gather and camp. Characterised by tali (sandhills), Punmu is sustained by important water sources and an abundance of mayi (bush foods). The availability of water and food made this Country an important place for families to camp and return to, supporting generations of life on Country. As Linty recalls: "This is my birth Country and my mother and father's Country. It has lots of tali. It is a special place for me. Lots of people camped here because it has water and lots of mayi (bush food)." Through this work, Linty maps a Country understood through lived experience and family connection, expressing her enduring relationship with the place in which she was born and the Country of her parents. © BERTHA LINTY / Copyright Agency, 2026
