Bed sheet - 300 cm - 270 cm - Double bed, in my 40s — LINO

Important and rare 1940s double bed set made of premium heavy pure hand-loomed linen, entirely hand-finished and hand-embroidered. The set includes an exceptionally large top sheet (270x300 cm) and two large coordinating pillowcases (85x65 cm). The set stands out for a majestic Italian artisanal craftsmanship with rich appliqué-style raised embroidery in “White on White” (padded satin stitch). The highly three-dimensional embroidery depicts a heron/stork, floral ramages, and a traditional geometric spiderweb with a small spider (ancient good luck symbol). On the hem of the sheet and on the pillowcases, there are the cursive auspicious inscriptions of the era, “Sonni” and “Sogni d’oro.” The pillowcases retain their original back closure with vintage mother-of-pearl buttons. Structural details and authenticity: Sheet construction: formed by vertically joining 3 linen panels. Width of each panel: 90 cm, a measure that certifies the original 1940s weaving on old narrow-width manual shuttle looms. Hem finish: sumptuous hand-made open hem (à jour) executed by hand, exactly 9 cm wide, running along the entire perimeter of the sheet and pillowcases with perfectly tailored diagonal corner mitering. Condition: The set is in excellent overall structural condition; the linen is sturdy, sound, and intact. Being an authentic 1940s piece kept in storage for a long time, there are a few small dark storage stains and slight age halos in localized areas (as clearly shown in the macro detail photos), easily addressable with a targeted wash or gentle brightening soak.
