All auctions / Miscellaneous / Bavaria - Coffee set for 6 (15) - Porcelain, Gold plated
Visible composition: A tall coffee/teapot with lid, a cream pitcher, a sugar bowl, and six demitasse cups (coffee or espresso) complete with coordinated saucers. Material and finish: Fine porcelain coated with a mirror-like finish in pure gold (often 22K or 24K gold). Artistic subject: The motif portrays a couple in 18th-century dress set in a garden, a famous Rococo iconography known among collectors as the “Courting Couple” or “Fragonard Love Scene.” Vintage coffee or tea service in porcelain, entirely gilded, featuring central medallions with gallant courting scenes in the style of the painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard. These decorative sets were produced mainly from the mid-20th century (notably the 1950s and 1960s) by renowned German porcelain manufactories in the Bavaria region (such as Winterling, JKW Carlsbad, or Schaller Wiesau).
