Descriptio A bas-relief in cement mortar depicting Giuliano di Piero de’ Medici (Florence, October 28, 1453 – Florence, April 26, 1478), an Italian politician and brother of Lorenzo the Magnificent, assassinated at the age of 25 during the famous Pazzi Conspiracy. According to the description given by Poliziano, one of the great poets of the 15th century, Giuliano was a tall man with a well-proportioned body, a broad and prominent chest, muscular and well-shaped arms, strong joints, a flat stomach, robust thighs, and powerful legs. He had expressive eyes, an energetic face, a dark complexion, and abundant black hair gathered at the nape of his neck. He was known for his skill in horsemanship, javelin throwing, jumping, and other physical exercises, as well as his passion for hunting. Poliziano described him as a magnanimous, steadfast, religious man of good character, kind and humane, endowed with strength and virtue, and with a profound respect for his brother. He showed great interest in painting, music, and the various manifestations of beauty, as well as poetic talent, having written profound poems in the vernacular. He enjoyed reading love poetry and possessed a natural elegance and distinction, without placing undue importance on his appearance. These qualities won him the affection of the people and those around him. The piece is dated to the late 20th century. Dimensions: 30 × 20 × 2 cm. Weight: 1 kg.
