Barycypraea teulerei (49mm) - GIANT SIZE - Exceptional...

An absolute world rarity for kauri specialists: a flawless giant specimen of the unusual Barycypraea teulerei. This highly interesting porcelain snail, scientifically classified as Barycypraea teulerei, ranks among the anatomically and visually most extraordinary representatives of the kauri snails. The offered showpiece breaks all standard measures: at a size of 49 mm, this specimen sits at the biological maximum for the species (average size is only 35–42 mm). Crowned by the GEM rating – the shell possesses a deep mirror-like gloss, perfectly flawless edges, a perfect shell opening and is completely free of defects, growth lines or dull spots. Product details in brief • Scientific name: Barycypraea teulerei (Cazenavette, 1846) • Family: Cypraeidae (porcelain shells / kauris) • Quality / condition: GEM (Absolute top quality for the most discerning collection). • Size: 49 mm (Rare, fully grown giant form/Heavy-Callused). • Morphology: Unique, almost buckled ("humped") shell shape with strongly thickened, heavy margins. The dorsal pattern shows the typical, fascinating asymmetrical speckling and banding in olive, gray and brown tones on a cream-colored ground with a sharply defined light base. • Origin & habitat • Locality: Gulf of Oman (endemic region in the northwest Indian Ocean). • Habitat & catching: This species is geographically highly restricted. It primarily lives on sandy-murky substrates and under rocks in the intertidal zone. Such flawless showpieces are recovered by local specialized divers or fishermen by hand in extremely low tide without damage under coral rocks. SKU Oberdiek - Cypraea teuleri
