# BARLING INTERNATIONAL 901 – PIPA VINTAGE MADE IN DENMARK **Brand:** Barling **Series:** International **Model:** 901 **Origin:** Denmark **Material:** Briar **Finish:** Smooth, reddish-brown with natural grain **Mouthpiece:** Black, with a specially shaped work **Conditions:** 8.5/10 – Very good **Indicative price:** 100 € ## DESCRIPTION Elegant vintage pipe **Barling International 901**, made in briar with a splendid smooth finish in reddish-brown color, characterized by clearly visible natural grain and a warm, deep tone. The curved, harmonious shape of the bowl combines with an elegant shank and a distinctive black mouthpiece with a geometrically shaped design. A distinctive design, with strong personality, that makes this specimen interesting for both the collector and the vintage pipe enthusiast. The visible markings on the shank bear the **Barling International** brand, the shape number **901** and the inscription **Made in Denmark**. ## THE HISTORY OF THE BARLING BRAND AND DANISH PRODUCTION Barling’s history goes back to London in 1812, when Benjamin Barling started his artisanal business, initially dedicated to the processing and decoration of pipes in sea foam. Subsequently, the family developed briar pipe production, building a notable reputation among enthusiasts and collectors. In the 1960s the brand passed under new management and, in the following decades, production underwent several changes. With the closure of the London plants around 1970, part of the production was entrusted to external manufacturers. In the 1970s, some Barling pipes marked **International** and **Made in Denmark** were made in Denmark by Erik Nørding, a renowned Danish craftsman and producer. This phase represents an interesting chapter in the brand’s history: the historic British name Barling met the style and creativity of Danish pipe-making tradition. The Barling International 901 offered here belongs to this particular line of Danish production and is an interesting piece for those who want to explore the various eras of the brand. ## CONDITION AND PRESERVATION The pipe is presented in **very good vintage condition, rated 8.5/10**. The briar retains a beautiful glossy finish and decorative grain. There are light signs compatible with age and previous use. The combustion chamber shows signs of use; the mouthpiece has small superficial marks. Overall, the piece maintains an elegant and pleasing appearance. Please refer to the photographs for a full assessment of details and conditions. ## COLLECTOR VALUE AND INTEREST The combination of the Barling name, the International series, the 901 shape, and Danish production makes this pipe an interesting proposition for a vintage pipe collection. **Indicative price: 100 €** A piece with distinctive character, testifying to the meeting of the history of a historic brand and Danish artisanal tradition. **ROBIMB – Vintage Pipe Collection**
