BALZAC (Honoré de). *Pappa Goriot*. With 26 full-page illustrations by Daumier, Lynch, and others. No place, Niloe, 1972. In-8. Publisher’s binding in full decorated yellow leather, embossed spine, top edges grayed. Swedish edition of the famous novel *Le Père Goriot*, one of Honoré de Balzac’s masterpieces and one of the foundational texts of *La Comédie humaine*. Through the tragic fate of the former vermicelli maker Goriot, ruined by his blind love for his daughters, Balzac delivers a masterful portrayal of Parisian society during the Restoration, dominated by ambition, money, and social rivalries. This edition is illustrated with 26 full-page plates, based on works by Honoré Daumier, Lynch, and other artists, which enrich the novel’s atmosphere and highlight the dramatic force of its main characters: Father Goriot, Rastignac, Vautrin, and the boarders at the Vauquer boardinghouse. Through the depth of its psychological insight and the power of its social critique, *Father Goriot* remains one of the pinnacles of 19th-century realist fiction and one of the most influential works in French literature. A beautiful copy in its original publisher’s full yellow leather binding. A few slight signs of wear and small marks on the covers. The interior is very fresh and well-preserved. An elegant, illustrated edition of a major Balzac classic, combining one of the most famous novels in French literature with a rich collection of illustrations inspired by the world of *La Comédie humaine*.
